Here is a schedule of orientation events sponsored by the Computer Science Department. There are many other campus-wide orientation events that you might like to explore. 9/18/2013 10:30 am - 5:00 pm Computer Science Department Orientation Meeting:

Please do not miss this meeting! It is the most important orientation event for all new CS graduate students and will be held from 10:30 am to 5:00 pm on Wednesday, September 18, 2013. Registration will be from 10:30 - 11:30 am. At noon, there will be an informal meeting starting with a welcome address and an overview of research in the department by Professor Jennifer Widom, Chair of the Department, followed by various members of the department who will speak about CAshipsRAships, the Honor Code at Stanford, computing facilities, etc.

After a short break at around 2:20 pm, the Ph.D. students will reassemble in Gates room 104 for an information session with Professor David Dill, Chair of the Ph.D. Program Committee, who will be your advisor for the entire Autumn quarter. The CSD Ph.D. Program Administrator, Business Manager and Financial Assistant will also be on hand to answer questions and distribute information. This meeting leads into a month-long series of specially designed seminars for all new Ph.D. students, which serves as an introduction to the faculty and their respective research areas and groups. This meeting is mandatory for all Ph.D. students including Change of Degree and Additional Degree students.

10/10/2013 Fall Kickoff Party:

There will be a CSD get-together on Thursday, October 10, 2013 beginning at 3:30 pm. It will be held in the courtyard area of the Gates Building AT&T Terrace. If you're married or have a significant other, please feel free to bring him or her along. This reception will provide an opportunity to chat with faculty, staff and other new and returning graduate students as well as to enjoy fine food and drink!
